The cost of performance
Us women, we are excellent at taking care of everyone else and putting our own needs last. Doing everything "right", being the leader, the rock, the one who keeps it all together. But behind closed doors, I know you feel a restless overwhelm. You call it stress; I call it exhaustion from performing.
I know that role all too well, coming from an unstable childhood. Born in the Czech Republic to a famous actor and raised in the Netherlands by my mother, I realized early on that my father wasn't the only one acting. Everyone was. I watched the women in my family play the "strong woman" so convincingly while they were quietly falling apart.
